Farrow & Ball Launches New Handcrafted Wallpaper Collection
The Purnon Papers are inspired by 18th-century patterns discovered during restorations of Château de Purnon in France
Heritage paint and wallpaper maker Farrow & Ball is proud to introduce The Purnon Papers — a new wallpaper collection inspired by patterns unearthed at Château de Purnon, nestled in the Loire Valley in the French countryside. Reimagined to transform both modern and traditional spaces, the five patterns will be brought to life this summer in signature Farrow & Ball fashion, using traditional techniques and real paint.
The Purnon Papers includes five designs ranging from dainty florals to ornate damasks, each available in five curated colourways. The new designs are Farrow & Ball interpretations of original patterns discovered in Château de Purnon when new owners began renovating the historic estate. In homage to this inspiration, the patterns are named after those who lived, and reveled, at the French château in its heyday.
The artistic flair behind the redesigned patterns is Farrow & Ball Creative Director, Charlotte Cosby:
“When I first saw the original patterns, I was just blown away. They’re so beautiful and intricate that it’s astonishing to think they’d be tucked away and forgotten for all those years. It was like discovering a treasure trove that I couldn’t wait to share with the world," says Charlotte Cosby. "We revised elements of the patterns like colour and scale, to make them feel as relevant to contemporary spaces today, as they were to the château a hundred years ago. From hotels to house boats, cafés to cottages, The Purnon Papers will always feel perfectly at home."
The traditional methods of production used by Farrow & Ball replicate the texture, depth and feel of the original papers. Depending on the pattern, the new wallpapers are made using roller block or flatbed printing and real Farrow & Ball paint. Both of these age-old methods take months to master and create a truly unrivaled look that adds a special touch to every space.
Perhaps the most striking pattern in the collection is Purnon, named after the château itself. Featuring an elaborate design with classical elements that symbolize peace, abundance and prosperity, this paper is sure to make a statement. In contrast, the unique Adelaïde is a floral pattern with a far more abstract feel. Bigger and bolder than the original inspiration, it still has a delicate charm.

About Château de Purnon
Once the grand home of Antoine-Charles Achard, Marquis de la Haye, Château de Purnon sits south of the Loire Valley in France. Built in 1788, this enchanting building had fallen into disrepair over the years, until it was discovered by Felicity Selkirk and Tim Holding. The Australian couple saw glimpses of the château’s former glory among the ruins and made the bold decision to bring it back to life — a restoration project proudly supported by Farrow & Ball.
